| Normally we would have gone to
the BMF this weekend, but in all honesty, there is nothing we needed and we
would only have ended up spending money we don't have. Arlene was keen to
get out on her bike though, as she just has not had the opportunity of late.
So, up bright and early to meet the Old Codgers and friends for a jolly
jaunt down to Bournemouth. For once I was 'off duty' with Richard leading
and Carl as rear gunner, and a splendid job they did too. Second man
marking, worked a treat and we all arrived just as the band was
setting up. Despite having tried the whole shop on a few weeks ago, Sue
still managed to find a couple of tops she couldn't live without. Apparently
it is now long sleeved top weather!
By now, the band was belting out some nostalgic numbers
and the BBQ was well underway. Chatting to other customers, (mainly Harley
riders) I found a Valkyrie rider who was once a VSOC member in Kent. It
turned out we had many friends in common and we both attended the Scrumpies
first rally down in Chudleigh. Just then five members of The Thames
Failed Vultures arrived, three fifths of whom went to great lengths to
avoid having to say hello to any of us. Hey Ho !
It was then time for Paul to have a paddle, so off
to Boscombe we went. Whilst most of us drank coffee and stuffed our faces,
Paul paddled and Keith and Ash played at being King Canute.
From there we all went to Lyndhurst where 5 of us peeled
off for home and the other 6 bikes went on to find a New Forest pub for a
late Sunday lunch. Once again, a great day out. I must say, it was really
impressive and satisfying to watch the group riding as one unit. Second
manning, looking out for each other, making space available for riders
behind to overtake and re-join the group...... great stuff! |
