A rainy ride out to Chalgrove

( The Wet Fete Day, 3rd May 2004 )

It is Bank Holiday Monday which means a wet day just as the weather forecast predicted after a glorious Sunday.

Sue and I wake up to grey morning having breakfast phone rings and its Roger checking to see if we are going. Yes we are but we go straight to the pigs as we had a  very late night on Sunday!!!.

As we start to get ready the heavens open so off we go in heavy rain all the way to the Pigs. Roads heavy with water both sides Arrive at Pigs to see a few trikes outside already inside Pete Jan and Barry and a welcoming cup of coffee.

15 to 20 minutes later the others arrive from the Eley. After a further 20 minutes off we all go still in heavy rain uuggg!!!!some 20 + bikes and the boat!!!.(he could have got his oars out!!)

A short ride to Chalgrove where we were met by the Local police who advised us to wait around for the start of the Procession!!

20 minutes of hanging around later the procession starts with drum majorettes a push along piano accompaniment and assorted young dressed up children then trikes followed by all the bikes by now 30 to 40 (didn't count but looked an impressive lot).

As you can imagine all done at walking pace (great for clutch control). This took ageeeessssss Roger pulls over says he can smell burning looks down sees his brand new £75 wet suit melting on his exhaust (help on fire he says as he proceeds to whip it off quick smart).

Into the car park where Pete takes one look at the muddy field we were supposed to be going into and decides we will stay in the car park. Gets all the bikes to line up for a group pic. Dave starts to assemble the club flag(see pic) ties it to a convenient lorry.

We go for a wonder to find loos and food walked around muddy show site for couple of hours then all headed off our separate ways home, by now nice blue skies and a bit of sunshine, despite the weather I'm sure we all still managed to have an enjoyable ride out. The company always makes for a good day out.

Ed and Sue
