D-DAY INTER CENTRE PAINTBALL 6 JUNE 2004 What a great day we had! With only 11 hard arse players from an invited 250 we split in to two teams… The Centre 12/19 Alpha team and the Centre 14 Beta team.
Ian Murfitt was Captain of Beta Company and I was captain of Alpha Company. The Teams consisted of Matt, Peter, Deputy Ian, Michael and Shane against Dave, Sean (Essex’s rep and only hard arse) Adam, Woody, Deputy Fff Pete and Big Rog. For the eagle eyed amongst you, you’ll notice it was 5 against 6 in favour of Alpha Company… Anyway a morning of intense fire fights ensued with various scenario’s being played, including (aptly) D-Day landing’s where one team start in a boat with a drop down landing platform! and then have to fight their way up the beach to the waiting Germans. Band of Brothers in which 5 tanks had to be taken, Zombie Crypt in which the bible had to be taken to the Zombie’s house by the preachers! [It has to be said Beta Company kicked our butts at that one!!] All great fun and by lunchtime it was 4 games all, despite our extra player... At this time no major injuries were incurred and an average of 400 of our 500 free balls had been fired, and so we were all ready for our lunch! After restocking our battle packs with another 500 balls and numerous smoke bombs we hit the playing fields for another 8 games and set a new site record for games played!!! That afternoon Alpha Company pulled out all the stops, OK we got totally mullered once or twice but our adrenalin was pumping hard! The Mexican Fort scenario in which a heavy wooden box of gold had to be carried down a flight of stairs and back to base camp was just great (that box was heavy!) and Alpha Company ended the day on 10 games to 6. However by this time some nasty hits has been taken and the swelling had started, but Matt took the injury of the day award with his 13 shots to the, Eh Erm, genital area from me and Roger as he crossed the bridge, sorry about that mate! He mentioned not having sex for a month and something about a Jap eye as he limped off! We won’t mention me getting shot out rather painfully by my own team mate at close range in Zombie Crypt... Or the fact that a Smoke grenade self ignited in Sean’s Battle Pack sending us all scurrying for cover (Sean just thought it was more of his foul wind from the beans at lunchtime!) By the end of the day we were all exhausted, especially Fff Pete who could hardly talk, let alone walk, and thanks to Dave, Toby & Sue who marshalled the day and cooked our food!
I can’t recommend Bullswood Skirmish enough, very professional, safe and above all fun. Just one final thing, always bring clean pants with you when you play paintball as you never know when you might catch yours on fire and they do make good improvised comedy props! See you next time we play, if you’re hard enough that is! Dave Captain Alpha Company
