The Vultures Go WAP

WAP? No not Jonathan Ross’ pronunciation of Rap, but rather an acronym that stands for Wireless Application Protocol. It is a standard for accessing information like text and images on wireless devices like mobile phones.

Fine, we ride custom cruisers, so why would we be remotely interested in anything like that? Well it’s the remote bit that may well be of interest. Lots of us have access to the Internet at home or in the office, so finding out when the next ride-out takes place is not a problem. But what if you are away on holiday, or worse still, you don’t have Internet access at all. What if, on a ride out to deepest Hampshire, you get lost, break down or find the best pub in the world? You don’t have access to the Internet to find Dave or John’s number so you’re stuck. That is unless you have your WAP enabled mobile with you.

Thames Valley Vultures now have their very own WAP site, like a web site but available on your mobile phone. So much like a web site in fact, that it contains many of the sections that our web site

has. Contacts, Events and Venues are all covered, so you have full access to all that information wherever you are. There is even a guest book, so you can tell everyone that you’ve been there, bought the T shirt, and sent the postcard.

We plan to launch the site at the next meeting, but for those who would like to take a sneak preview on their phone the WAP address is http://tagtag.com/vultures and if you don’t know how to do that via your mobile, the web link for a peek is here Vultures.
